The Non-Material Things that Disrupt the Fast – Shaykh al-Albānī

Shaykh al-Albānī, may Allāh have mercy upon him, said:

Allāh, the Exalted and Most High, says in the Noble Qurān:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ
O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may become people having Taqwaa. [Sooratul-Baqarah (2): 183]

So in this āyah, as will not be hidden to all those who are present, Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic, informs the Ummah of Muḥammad (صلى الله عليه و سلم) , through this āyah, that He has made fasting obligatory upon them just as He had made its like obligatory upon the nations before us. This is a matter that is well-known to all of the Muslims who read this āyah, and clearly understand its meaning. But what I wish to speak about is something else, a matter which very few of the general people notice – and this is the saying of Allāh, the Exalted and Most High, at the end of this āyah: Continue reading

The Character Of The Prophet In Ramaḍân

The Noble Scholar Shaykh Ibn Bāz (may Allâh have mercy upon him) stated:

Being that Allâh created His Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) upon the most complete description and the most noble of it as has come in the narration of Abu Hurayrah (may Allâh be pleased with him) the Prophet  (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:

Indeed I have only be sent to complete the noble character.

The Messenger of Allâh (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was the most generous of all the people. Likewise he is the most noble, most courageous and most complete in all of the praiseworthy characteristics. His generosity consisted of all the categories of generosity. His generosity use to increase in Ramaḍân more so than other months just as the generosity of his Lord increases in it. Continue reading

Did Not Eat Saḥūr – Does He Have To Renew His Intention To Fast?

Shaykh Muḥammad Ibn Ṣâliḥ `Uthaymīn (may Allâh have mercy upon him) stated:

Eating the Saḥūr is Sunnah. If the person eats it, it is better. This is based on the statement of the Prophet  (صلى الله عليه وسلم):

Take the Saḥūr for indeed there’s a blessing in the Saḥūr. (Bukhāri and Muslim)

If he doesn’t eat it, there’s no sin upon him. Many from amongst the people eat much at night for dinner so when the person gets up during the last part of the night he doesn’t have the desire for food and remains (sufficed) upon his dinner. Continue reading

Commanding The Children To Pray

The Messenger of Allâh (صلى الله عليه وسلم) stated: “Command the children to pray at the age of seven, punish them for not praying at the age of ten and separate between them in the beds.”

The noble Scholar Shaykh Muḥammad Amān al-Jāmi (raḥimahullâh) stated:

The young child who is under the age of seven (in most cases) doesn’t understand. Based upon that, we have been commanded to command our children  with the prayer at the age of seven because they do not understand (in most cases) before that. The child’s point is seven years of age, then he is commanded with the prayer based on the statement of the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم): “Command your children to pray at seven years of age, dicipline them for not praying at the age of ten and separate between them in the beds.” This are the Islamic mannerisms (that are upon us to observe); therefore it’s befitting to hold to them. Three Categories of Knowing The Truth

Shaykhul-Islām Ibn al-Qayyim (raḥimahullâh) stated:

The people are divided into three categories regarding knowing the truth and acting in accordance to it. That’s because the servant (of Allâh) is either one who knows the truth or ignorant of it. And the one who knows the truth either he is one who acts in accordance to its requirements or opposes it. These are the categories of people who are (held) responsible and they don’t ever leave (from these categories). The one who knows the truth and acts in accordance to it, he is the one who is favored (by Allâh). He is the one who has purified himself with the beneficial knowledge and righteous actions and he is the one who is successful. Continue reading
