Did Not Eat Saḥūr – Does He Have To Renew His Intention To Fast?

Shaykh Muḥammad Ibn Ṣâliḥ `Uthaymīn (may Allâh have mercy upon him) stated:

Eating the Saḥūr is Sunnah. If the person eats it, it is better. This is based on the statement of the Prophet  (صلى الله عليه وسلم):

Take the Saḥūr for indeed there’s a blessing in the Saḥūr. (Bukhāri and Muslim)

If he doesn’t eat it, there’s no sin upon him. Many from amongst the people eat much at night for dinner so when the person gets up during the last part of the night he doesn’t have the desire for food and remains (sufficed) upon his dinner. Continue reading

The Ruling of Fasting For The One Who Did Not Take The Saḥūr

Shaykh ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated:
Eating the Saḥūr is Sunnah.  If the person eats it, it is better. This is based on the statement of the Prophet  (صلى الله عليه وسلم):
Take the Saḥūr for indeed there is a blessing in the Saḥūr.

Have a Lot of Children, Your Provisions Will Increase

The Noble Shaykh Muḥammad Ibn Sāliḥ al-‘Uthaymīn (may Allāh have mercy upon him) stated:

The one who has evil thoughts about his Lord has gone clearly astray when he has said: Don’t have a lot of children, it will cause your provisions to be restricted! By the Lord of the throne they have lied. When the people have a lot of children Allāh increases their provisions. That’s because there’s no creature upon the earth except that its provisions is upon Allāh. Therefore the provisions of your children are upon Allāh (‘azza wa jall). He is the one who opes up the doors of provision in order that you spend upon them. Continue reading

Changing The Intention During The Prayer Nullifies The Prayer

The Noble Shaykh Muḥammad Ibn Sāliḥ al-‘Uthaymīn (may Allāh have mercy upon him) was asked:

Question: What is the ruling on changing the intention during the prayer? As an example: I forgot (to pray) Salāt adh-Dhuhr and the time for Salātul-‘Aṣr came in. So I entered into Salātul-‘Aṣr with the intentions that it’s ‘Aṣr; then, in the third Rakaʿah, I remembered I didn’t pray Dhuhr. Therefore, I changed the intention. So what is upon me to do?

Answer: Now I ask you a question, when the (person) changed the intention – the intention of praying ‘Aṣr to praying Dhuhr – did he negate the ‘Aṣr or not? He negated it. Therefore the ‘Aṣr has become negated. Also, when he made the intentions for the prayer that it is Dhuhr, is his intention sound while he did not intend it from the beginning? Therefore both of the prayers are invalid. Continue reading

How to Distinguish Between a Caller to Allah & Others

The Noble Scholar Shaykh Muḥammad Ibn Sâliḥ al-‘Uthaymīn (may Allāh have mercy upon him) stated:

The callers to Allah are divided into two categories: 1) One who (truly) calls to Allāh 2) One who calls to other than Him. The one who (truly) calls to Allāh: He is one who is sincere who wants to connect the people to Allah. The one who calls to other than Allāh: He can be one who calls to himself. He calls to the truth in order that he is magnified and respected amongst the people. For this you find him becoming upset when the people do not do what he commands them with and he doesn’t become upset when they embark upon a prohibition that is greater than it (i.e. that which he commanded them with). However he does not call to the abandonment of it (i.e. the prohibition.

Concerned With Aḥādīth But Not With The Qur`ān

The Noble Imam, Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen (may Allah preserve him) stated:

Many from amongst the students of knowledge have concern for the Sunnah and its explanation along with knowing its men (from the chains of narrations) and its sciences (or terminology). However if you were to ask him about a verse from the Book of Allah, you will see that he is ignorant of it. This is a big mistake. It is a must that the Book and the Sunnah are two wings for you, O Student of knowledge.

Do Not Expose Your Sins in Front of Family – Shaykh ‘Uthaymeen

The Noble Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated:

It is befitting for the man if he is one who is afflicted with (the committing of) an act of disobedience from the acts of disobedience that he is diligent upon not letting his family witness him committing it. I’ll give an example for that in the matter of smoking.  Some of the people are afflicted with this act of disobedience.  Then the person smokes in front of his children and as a result of that they become accustomed to this and possibly smoke as their father smokes.  With that, he (the father) becomes one who has directed (his children) to an evil so upon him is the act of sin and the sin of those who acted upon it (due to him) until the Day of Judgment.

Do Not Cover Up The Truth With Falsehood

وَلَا تَلْبِسُوا الْحَقَّ بِالْبَاطِلِ وَتَكْتُمُوا الْحَقَّ وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
And mix not truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth [i.e. Muhammad Peace be upon him is Allah’s Messenger and his qualities are written in your Scriptures, the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] while you know (the truth). (Soorah Al-Baqara: 42)

The Noble Shaykh Sālih al-Fawzān (may Allah preserve him) stated explaining this verse:

This is another prohibition – covering up the truth with falsehood. Meaning, mixing the truth with falsehood. That which is obligatory is that the truth be distinguished from that which is falsehood. Continue reading

From the Benefits of the Five Daily Prayers

The Noble Imām Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Sālih al-‘Uthaymīn (may Allāh have mercy upon him) said:

Allāh has obligated them (i.e. the five daily prayers) upon the servants. When He first obligated them, He obligated them as fifty prayers to be prayed in the day and night. And being that it was fifty prayers, it is an indication of the love of Allāh for them, His care for them and that they are an act of worship which is entitled to take up most of the person’s time because it is the connection between Allāh and His servants.
