Those Who Leave Off The Maghrib Prayer in Congregation Due to Breaking the Fast

The Noble scholar Shaykh Salih al-Fawzān  (may Allāh preserve him) said:

Here, there’s a matter which is a must that attention be brought to, and it is that some of the people sit at the table where a person’s fast is broken, have dinner and leave off praying Maghrib in congregation in the Masjid. As a result of that, the person commits a great mistake, and it is staying back from  praying (the Maghrib) in congregation in the Masjid. He causes himself to miss out on a magnificent reward and subjects himself to the punishment (of Allāh). That which is legislated for the fasting person is that he first breaks his fast, then he goes (to the Masjid) for the prayer, then afterwards he has his dinner.

100 Years Old & Blind Still Praying In The Masjid

Shaykh Abdurrazzāq al-Badr stated:

Another great story from ‘Umar Ibn al-Khattāb concerning the status of the prayer and attentiveness to pray in congregation is what has been narrated from al-Hākim in his collection of hadīth from Abdullāh Ibn Ja’far.

‘Umar Ibn al-Khattāb went to the home of Sa‘īd Ibn Yarbu’ to visit him when he lost his eyesight. He lost his eyesight so ‘Umar went to his home to visit him. ‘Umar said to him: “Do not abandon Jumu‘ah prayer and do not leave off praying in the Prophet’s Masjid (sallallāhu ‘alaihi wa-sallam). Sa‘īd replied: “I don’t have anyone to take me.”

‘Umar said: “We will find someone to take you.” Thus they found a young slave boy to take him. Look at this concern. During this time Sa‘īd was almost 100 years old. Continue reading

Commanding The Children To Pray

The Messenger of Allâh (صلى الله عليه وسلم) stated: “Command the children to pray at the age of seven, punish them for not praying at the age of ten and separate between them in the beds.”

The noble Scholar Shaykh Muḥammad Amān al-Jāmi (raḥimahullâh) stated:

The young child who is under the age of seven (in most cases) doesn’t understand. Based upon that, we have been commanded to command our children  with the prayer at the age of seven because they do not understand (in most cases) before that. The child’s point is seven years of age, then he is commanded with the prayer based on the statement of the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم): “Command your children to pray at seven years of age, dicipline them for not praying at the age of ten and separate between them in the beds.” This are the Islamic mannerisms (that are upon us to observe); therefore it’s befitting to hold to them. Changing The Intention During The Prayer Nullifies The Prayer

The Noble Shaykh Muḥammad Ibn Sāliḥ al-‘Uthaymīn (may Allāh have mercy upon him) was asked:

Question: What is the ruling on changing the intention during the prayer? As an example: I forgot (to pray) Salāt adh-Dhuhr and the time for Salātul-‘Aṣr came in. So I entered into Salātul-‘Aṣr with the intentions that it’s ‘Aṣr; then, in the third Rakaʿah, I remembered I didn’t pray Dhuhr. Therefore, I changed the intention. So what is upon me to do?

Answer: Now I ask you a question, when the (person) changed the intention – the intention of praying ‘Aṣr to praying Dhuhr – did he negate the ‘Aṣr or not? He negated it. Therefore the ‘Aṣr has become negated. Also, when he made the intentions for the prayer that it is Dhuhr, is his intention sound while he did not intend it from the beginning? Therefore both of the prayers are invalid. Continue reading

From the Benefits of the Five Daily Prayers

The Noble Imām Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Sālih al-‘Uthaymīn (may Allāh have mercy upon him) said:

Allāh has obligated them (i.e. the five daily prayers) upon the servants. When He first obligated them, He obligated them as fifty prayers to be prayed in the day and night. And being that it was fifty prayers, it is an indication of the love of Allāh for them, His care for them and that they are an act of worship which is entitled to take up most of the person’s time because it is the connection between Allāh and His servants. Obligatory To Preserve The Prayer

The Noble Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan (may Allah preserve him) stated:

It is obligatory to preserve (the performance of) the prayer in congregation at Fajr and other than it. The matter of (over)sleeping is not always an (accepted) excuse. The one who is accustomed (to over) sleeping and leaving off the prayer is not excused. That which is obligatory upon him is to implement the means which will wake him up from sleep early. It is also obligatory upon him is to have the firm resolve to get up for the prayer.
