The Noble Scholar Shaykh Muqbil Ibn Haadi, Allah have mercy on him, was asked:
Question: Who is the extremist?
Answer: Extremism/harshness is (that a person) makes prohibited upon the people something that Allah didn’t make prohibited and he obligates upon the people something which Allah didn’t obligate. This is extremism/harshness (in the religion). As for holding on to the religion (as it has been revealed), this is not considered extremism (in the religion).
Shaykh Sulayman ar-Ruhayli writes:
From their [i.e: those upon khāriji ideologies like ISIS, Al-Qā’idah, etc] danger is their praise of themselves and their speaking ill of those who are better than them. Shaykhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) stated: “The first to go astray in that are the Khawārij al-Māriqoon (Those who have gone outside the practice of the religion according to the way of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم). This is due to them judging for themselves that they are the ones holding on to the Book of Allah and His Sunnah and that Alī, Mu’āwiyah and the soldiers (who were with these two) are the people of disobedience and innovation. Therefore, as a result of that, they made lawful that which they made lawful from the Muslims.” This is the way of the Khawārij up until today. And this is a great danger. Continue reading
The Noble Scholar Shaykh Salih al-Fawzaan (May Allah preserve him) said:
When you want to be a true Salafi, it is upon you to study the way/methodology of the Salaf with precision, know it with insight, then act in accordance to it without extremism and without being lackadaisical. This is the methodology of the Salaf. As for the mere claim and mere ascribing (to the methodology of the Salaf) without any reality, this harms (the person) and doesn’t (bring about) benefit. That which is obligatory upon the believer is to stay away from the prohibitions of Allāh. The acts of disobedience are prohibited at all times and in all places. The Noble scholar Shaykh Salih al-Fawzān (may Allāh preserve him) said:
Here, there’s a matter which is a must that attention be brought to, and it is that some of the people sit at the table where a person’s fast is broken, have dinner and leave off praying Maghrib in congregation in the Masjid. As a result of that, the person commits a great mistake, and it is staying back from praying (the Maghrib) in congregation in the Masjid. He causes himself to miss out on a magnificent reward and subjects himself to the punishment (of Allāh). That which is legislated for the fasting person is that he first breaks his fast, then he goes (to the Masjid) for the prayer, then afterwards he has his dinner.
Al-Hasan Al-Basri (may Allāh have mercy upon him) stated about the statement of Allāh:
The reflecting over its verses is nothing but following it with actions. By Allāh, it’s not the memorization of its letters and the wasting of its prescribed limits. It’s to the point that one of them says: 《By Allāh, I read the entire Qurān and I do not leave off one letter》 but he indeed has left off all of it (in practice). You don’t see in him the mannerisms of the Qurān nor the actions. It’s to the point that one of them says: 《By Allāh, indeed I read the Sūrah in one breath》By Allāh, these individuals are not (true) reciters, nor scholars, nor wise, nor people of religious piety. When have the (true) reciters ever said the likes of this?! May Allāh not increase the likes of these individuals among the Muslims!! Continue reading
Indeed, the praise is for Allāh; we praise Him and we seek His help and forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allāh from the evil of ourselves and our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allāh guides, there is no one who can lead that person astray, and whomsoever Allāh leads astray, there is no guide for them.
