Did Not Eat Saḥūr – Does He Have To Renew His Intention To Fast?

Shaykh Muḥammad Ibn Ṣâliḥ `Uthaymīn (may Allâh have mercy upon him) stated:

Eating the Saḥūr is Sunnah. If the person eats it, it is better. This is based on the statement of the Prophet

Take the Saḥūr for indeed there’s a blessing in the Saḥūr. (Bukhāri and Muslim)

If he doesn’t eat it, there’s no sin upon him. Many from amongst the people eat much at night for dinner so when the person gets up during the last part of the night he doesn’t have the desire for food and remains (sufficed) upon his dinner. Continue reading

It Is Human Nature To Forget

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah  (may Allāh be pleased with him) that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم)  said:

Whoever forgets while he is fasting and he eats or drinks, let him continue (complete) his fast. Indeed it was only Allāh who fed him and gave him drink. (Agreed Upon)

The Noble Scholar Shaykh Ibn Bāz (may Allāh have mercy upon him) commented:

This is a virtue from Allāh (‘azza wa-jall). Mankind is prone to forgetfulness just as the Prophet  (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “I am a human being like you. I forget just as you forget.”
Forgetfulness is from human nature. Therefore if he forgets while he is fasting in Ramadan or fasting as an expiation or fasting for a reason other than these two and he eats or drinks or he has done another one of the things that breaks the fast out of forgetfulness, his fast is sound. The Ruling of Fasting For The One Who Did Not Take The Saḥūr

Fast According to the Sighting of the Crescent

Imam Ibn Baz (may Allah have mercy upon him) said commenting on the statement of the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam):

Fast due to its sighting (i.e the new moon for the month of Ramadan) and break your fast due to its sighting.  If it is hidden from you, then complete the time (of the month of Sha’baan) as 30 days (Bukhari and Muslim.) Continue reading

Commanding The Children To Pray

The Messenger of Allâh (صلى الله عليه وسلم) stated: “Command the children to pray at the age of seven, punish them for not praying at the age of ten and separate between them in the beds.”

The noble Scholar Shaykh Muḥammad Amān al-Jāmi (raḥimahullâh) stated:

The young child who is under the age of seven (in most cases) doesn’t understand. Based upon that, we have been commanded to command our children  with the prayer at the age of seven because they do not understand (in most cases) before that. The child’s point is seven years of age, then he is commanded with the prayer based on the statement of the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم): “Command your children to pray at seven years of age, dicipline them for not praying at the age of ten and separate between them in the beds.” This are the Islamic mannerisms (that are upon us to observe); therefore it’s befitting to hold to them. Treating Oneself With Honey

This is a benefit from last night’s class in which our Shaykh, the Allāmah Muḥammad Ibn ‘Alī Ibn Ādam Al-Etiyūbī (may Allāh preserve him) mentioned in his explanation of Ḥadeeth #2217 of Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim:

A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “Indeed my brother is having a stomach ailment.” The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, “Give him honey.” So the man gave him (his brother) honey. Then the man came to him (the Messenger ﷺ) again and said, “Indeed I gave him the honey and it did not increase him except in stomach pains.” Continue reading
