Did Not Eat Saḥūr – Does He Have To Renew His Intention To Fast?

Shaykh Muḥammad Ibn Ṣâliḥ `Uthaymīn (may Allâh have mercy upon him) stated:

Eating the Saḥūr is Sunnah. If the person eats it, it is better. This is based on the statement of the Prophet  (صلى الله عليه وسلم):

Take the Saḥūr for indeed there’s a blessing in the Saḥūr. (Bukhāri and Muslim)

If he doesn’t eat it, there’s no sin upon him. Many from amongst the people eat much at night for dinner so when the person gets up during the last part of the night he doesn’t have the desire for food and remains (sufficed) upon his dinner. Continue reading

It Is Human Nature To Forget

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah  (may Allāh be pleased with him) that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم)  said:

مَنْ نَسِيَ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ، فَأَكَلَ أَوْ شَرِبَ، فَلْيُتِمَّ صَوْمَهُ، فَإِنَّمَا أَطْعَمَهُ اَللَّهُ وَسَقَاهُ – مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ
Whoever forgets while he is fasting and he eats or drinks, let him continue (complete) his fast. Indeed it was only Allāh who fed him and gave him drink. (Agreed Upon)

The Noble Scholar Shaykh Ibn Bāz (may Allāh have mercy upon him) commented:

This is a virtue from Allāh (‘azza wa-jall). Mankind is prone to forgetfulness just as the Prophet  (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “I am a human being like you. I forget just as you forget.”
Forgetfulness is from human nature. Therefore if he forgets while he is fasting in Ramadan or fasting as an expiation or fasting for a reason other than these two and he eats or drinks or he has done another one of the things that breaks the fast out of forgetfulness, his fast is sound. Striving Against One’s Soul

The Noble Scholar Shaykh Ṣālih al-Fawzān (may Allāh preserve him) stated:

Striving against one’s soul: It’s that the person strives against himself in obedience of Allah (‘azza wa-jall). He commands his soul with the obedience of Allāh and mandates it with the obedience of Allāh. He also prohibits it from the disobedience of Allāh and prevents it from that. The person is in a struggle with himself throughout his entire life. Whoever doesn’t have the ability to strive against himself, he doesn’t have the ability to strive against other than himself. It is not possible for the person to strive (for the sake of Allāh against others) except when he has striven against himself firstly by mandating his soul with the obedience of Allāh and withholding it from the disobedience of Allāh. The soul commands with that which is evil, except that which your Lord has had mercy upon (from the souls). Therefore the person is to strive against it until it complies with the obedience of Allāh. Then in that case the person can turn to the remaining categories of striving (for the sake of Allāh). Continue reading

Presenting Food To The Kuffaar In The Month Of Ramadaan

Question posed to The Noble Shaykh Muhammad Ferkoos (may Allah preserve him):

Question:
What is the ruling of presenting food to the Kuffaar in the month of Ramadaan (during the day)? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
All praise is due to Allah the lord of the creation. May the Salaah and Salaam be upon the one who Allah has sent as a mercy for the creation, upon his family, companions and his brothers until the Day of Judgment.  As to what follows:

The origin is that the Kuffaar are addressed with believing (in Islaam) according to the consensus and they are addressed with the branches of the legislation according the most correct of the statements of the people of knowledge. And from the branches of the legislation is the fasting and its ruling is one of obligation upon the Kaafir after the actualization of the condition of having faith. Continue reading
