Is Finishing The Qur’aan in Ramadaan Obligatory?

Question Posed to Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy upon him):

Question:
Is finishing the Qur’aan in Ramadaan considered a matter that is obligatory for the fating person?

Answer:
Finishing the Qur-aan in Ramadaan for the fasting person is not an obligatory matter. However it is befitting for the person in Ramadaan to recite the Qur-aan in abundance just as that is the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam. Jibreel use to go over the Qur-aan with him every Ramadaan.” Continue reading

I Wish I Hadn’t Taken So-and-So as a Close Friend

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy upon him) said regarding the statement of Allah:

Oh I wish I hadn’t taken so and so as a close friend. (al-Furqaan: 28)

Whoever takes someone from creation as a close friend in opposition to the commandment of Allah and his Messenger, then this threat is for him.

The Abundance of Numbers Is Not Used As a Proof

Allah The Most High stated:

And if you were to obey the majority of those in the Earth, they would lead you astray from the path of Allah. (Al-An’aam:116)

The Noble Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated:

This verse indicates that the abundance of people (being together) is not to be used as a proof against the truth, nor is the small number of those traversing upon a matter from the affairs a proof that it is other than truth. Rather the reality is opposite of that. Indeed the people of the truth are fewer in number but greater with Allah in status and reward. Rather that which is obligatory (upon the people) is to use the paths which lead to it, (truth or falsehood) as a proof for what is the truth and what is falsehood.

The Righteous Are Given Success

Imaam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal (may Allah have mercy him) was asked:

Who can we ask after you?

He stated, “Ask ‘Abdul Wahhaab.” It was said, “Indeed he is not one who is vast in knowledge.” Imam Ahmad said, “Indeed he is a righteous man and the likes of him is given the success to be upon the truth.”
