From The Dangers and Evil of ISIS, Al-Qā’idah and Those Like Them

Shaykh Sulayman ar-Ruhayli writes:

From their [i.e: those upon khāriji ideologies like ISIS, Al-Qā’idah, etc] danger is their praise of themselves and their speaking ill of those who are better than them. Shaykhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) stated: “The first to go astray in that are the Khawārij al-Māriqoon (Those who have gone outside the practice of the religion according to the way of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم). This is due to them judging for themselves that they are the ones holding on to the Book of Allah and His Sunnah and that Alī, Mu’āwiyah and the soldiers (who were with these two) are the people of disobedience and innovation. Therefore, as a result of that, they made lawful that which they made lawful from the Muslims.” This is the way of the Khawārij up until today. And this is a great danger. Continue reading

Rejecting The Truth

Shaykh ul-Islam (May Allah have Mercy on him):

So indeed a person may know that the truth is with other than him and, in spite of this, he rejects that due to his envy of him or due to seeking to be above him or due to the desire of the soul. And that desire causes him to transgress against him, reject that which he says by any way whilst in his heart, he knows that the truth is with him. Continue reading

Oh You Who Does Ruqya…

Shaykhul-Islam Ibn Taymīyyah (may Allāh have mercy upon him):

If the Jinn is from the Afārīt and he (the one performing the Ruqyaa) is weak, they can harm him. Therefore, the likes of this person is to protect himself with the recitation of that which gives refuge and protection like Āyah al-Kursī, the Mu’auwwidhāt (Sūrah al-Falaq and Sūrah an-Nās), the making of the prayer, supplication and the likes of that from that which strengthens the faith. He is also to keep away from the acts of sins which (cause the enemies) to gain authority over him. Continue reading

Muslim Husband, Christian Wife, Death While Pregnant

Shaykhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (raḥimahullâh) was asked about a Christian woman whose husband is a Muslim.

Question: She (the Christian woman) died while being seven months pregnant. Is she to be buried with the Muslims or with the Christians?

Answer: She is not to be buried in the graveyard of the Muslims nor in the graveyard of the Christians. That is because there is a Muslim and a Kāfir united together (in her). Therefore the Kāfir is not to be buried with the Muslims and the Muslim is not to be buried with the Kuffār. Rather she is to be buried by herself and her back is to be turned to the Qiblah (direction of prayer, which is Makkah). That is because the face of the child (in the womb of the mother) is (facing) towards her back. Therefore if she is buried like that, the face of the Muslim child (in her womb) is facing towards the Qiblah. Also the child is considered to be a Muslim due to the Islam of his father even if his mother is a Kāfirah according to the consensus of the scholars. Continue reading

Intentions Matter When Speaking the Truth

Shaykhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allāh have mercy upon him):

If the person who speaks the truth intends (with that) being uppermost in the land (over the people) and/or causing corruption therein, then he is on the same level as the one who fights out of fanaticism and showing off. On the other hand, if the person speaks (the truth) sincerely for the sake of Allāh, making the religion for Him (Alone), he is from the Mujāhidīn (i.e. those who  strive) on the path of Allāh; (he is from the) inheritors of the Prophets (and) the successors of the Messengers.

Trials Reveal The True Men

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated:

Not everyone who adorns himself with the Sunnah is a Sunnee. However, during the times of trials and tribulations, you will come to know the (true) men. And the protected one is the one who Allah has protected.   Continue reading

I Wish I Hadn’t Taken So-and-So as a Close Friend

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy upon him) said regarding the statement of Allah:

Oh I wish I hadn’t taken so and so as a close friend. (al-Furqaan: 28)

Whoever takes someone from creation as a close friend in opposition to the commandment of Allah and his Messenger, then this threat is for him.

Having an Expansive Chest Towards the One Who Opposes You

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated:

I have an expansive chest towards the one who opposes me. Indeed if he were to transgress the boundaries of Allah regarding me by declaring me to be a kaafir or a faasiq (criminal), or by lying upon me or dealing with me in a manner of pre-Islamic fanaticism, I will not transgress the boundaries of Allah regarding him. Return The Blame To Yourself And Seek Forgiveness

Shaykhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated:

When you see the servant talking about the people when they have harmed him whilst he  (the servant) doesn’t return the blame back to himself and seek forgiveness (from Allah), then know that his calamity is a true calamity. However when he repents, seeks forgiveness and says “This is due to my sins,” then this matter (of being harmed by the people) will become a blessing for him. Continue reading
