Purification Of The Heart

The Noble ‘Allaamah Muhammad Ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated:

Have (great) concern oh brother for the purification of your heart before the purification of your body parts. How many people pray, fast, give charity, and perform Hajj but the person’s heart is corrupt?! Here are the Khawaarij. The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) mentioned about them that they pray, fast, give charity, recite the Qur’aan, stand at night in prayer, they cry, they make Tahajjud, and it was such that the companion (of the Prophet) would consider his prayer insignificant in comparison to their prayer. However the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said (about them), “Their faith doesn’t go past their collarbones,” meaning that the faith doesn’t enter into their hearts. This is the case along with them rectifying that which is outward. However it didn’t benefit them. Therefore do not be deceived by the uprightness of your body parts, and look at your heart before everything. I ask Allah that He rectifies my heart and yours. Continue reading

The Origins Of Wrongdoing

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated:

The origins of wrongdoing are three:

1. Arrogance: It is that which drove Iblees to that which it drove him (i.e. to commit that which Iblees committed).

2. Desire: It is that which caused Aadam to be expelled from the Paradise.

3. Jealousy: It is that which caused one of the sons of Aadam to transgress against his brother.

Therefore, whoever is protected from the evil of these three (traits) then indeed he has been protected from evil. For disbelief is from arrogance; disobedience from desires; and transgression and oppression from jealousy. Continue reading

The Mercy Of Islam Upon All Animals

The Imam and Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih al-Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated:

When you want to kill a rat, and killing it is recommended, do well in killing it. Kill it with that which will cause its soul to leave right on the spot. Do not harm it. From the ways of harming it is that which some people do when they put something down to catch it by way of sticking it (ex. using glue or a mouse trap). The rat is stuck to it (i.e. the trap); then the person leaves the rat to die from hunger and thirst. Continue reading

I swear by Allah it’s not permissible for you to harm a dog or a pig without right. Therefore, how can you harm a Muslim?!
