Al-Imaam Ibn Baaz (may Allah have mercy upon) stated:

As for many of the people, then (you’ll find that) he’s with the truth when it agrees with the desires and the opposite it when (the truth) opposes the desires. Therefore, in reality he is one who only followed his desires.

وأمّا كثيرٌ مِنَ الناس فهو مع الحق إذا وافَقَ الهوى، وضدّه إذا خالف الهوى، فهو في الحقيقة ما اتَّبَعَ إلا هواه.
