Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated:

I have an expansive chest towards the one who opposes me. Indeed if he were to transgress the boundaries of Allah regarding me by declaring me to be a kaafir or a faasiq (criminal), or by lying upon me or dealing with me in a manner of pre-Islamic fanaticism, I will not transgress the boundaries of Allah regarding him. Rather I will be accurate in that which I say and do. I will weigh it with the scales of justice and make it a follower of the Book which Allah has sent down, made a guidance for mankind and a judge for that which they differed in.

:قال شيخ الإسلام -رحمه الله

.هذا وأنا في سعة صدر لمن يخالفني فإنه وإن تعدَّى حدود الله فِيَّ بتكفير أو تفسيق أو افتراء أو عصبية جاهلية ؛ فأنا لا أتعدى حدود الله فيه

.بل أضبط ما أقوله وأفعله وأزنه بميزان العدل وأجعله مؤتمّاً بالكتاب الذي أنزله الله وجعله هدى للناس حاكما فيما اختلفوا فيه
