Muslim Husband, Christian Wife, Death While Pregnant

Shaykhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (raḥimahullâh) was asked about a Christian woman whose husband is a Muslim.

Question: She (the Christian woman) died while being seven months pregnant. Is she to be buried with the Muslims or with the Christians?

Answer: She is not to be buried in the graveyard of the Muslims nor in the graveyard of the Christians. That is because there is a Muslim and a Kāfir united together (in her). Therefore the Kāfir is not to be buried with the Muslims and the Muslim is not to be buried with the Kuffār. Rather she is to be buried by herself and her back is to be turned to the Qiblah (direction of prayer, which is Makkah). That is because the face of the child (in the womb of the mother) is (facing) towards her back. Therefore if she is buried like that, the face of the Muslim child (in her womb) is facing towards the Qiblah. Also the child is considered to be a Muslim due to the Islam of his father even if his mother is a Kāfirah according to the consensus of the scholars. Continue reading

Defining Ḥizbiyyah

Shaykhul-Islām ibn Taymiyyah (may Allāh have mercy upon him) mentioned regarding Ḥizbiyyah:

As for the leader of the Ḥizb, he is the head of the group which has become a Ḥizb. If they are united upon that which Allāh has commanded with, as well as His Messenger without any addition or subtraction, then they are believers. For them is that which is for them and upon them is that which is upon them. And if they have indeed added to that or subtracted (from it) – like having Taʿaṣṣub (fanaticism) for whoever enters into their Ḥizb (group/party) based upon the truth and falsehood and turning away from the one who has not entered into their Ḥizb whether he is upon the truth or falsehood – then this is from the separation (into groups and parties) which Allāh and His Messenger have condemned. The Description of Knowledge – Shaykh ibn Taymiyyah

Shaykhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated:

There are many from the students of knowledge whose intention with the knowledge is nothing except the attainment of leadership or wealth, and for every person is that which he intended. As for the people of knowledge and religion, they are the (true) people of knowledge.  This is what’s intended with them due to its benefit for them and their need Continue reading

Return The Blame To Yourself And Seek Forgiveness

Shaykhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated:

When you see the servant talking about the people when they have harmed him whilst he  (the servant) doesn’t return the blame back to himself and seek forgiveness (from Allah), then know that his calamity is a true calamity. However when he repents, seeks forgiveness and says “This is due to my sins,” then this matter (of being harmed by the people) will become a blessing for him. Continue reading

One Does Not Cease To Seek (Religious) Knowledge

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated:

The person does not cease to seek the knowledge (of the religion) and faith. When something from the (matters of) knowledge becomes clear to him that which was hidden from him, he follows it. This person is not (to be considered) one who wavers back and forth. Rather this person is one who is guided, one who Allah has increased in guidance.

Question Oft-Repeated By The Ignorant

Question:
Why have you left off the Jews and the Christians but you backbite the religious callers of the Muslims?

Answer:
Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated: The corruption of the Jews and the Christians is apparent to the general masses of the Muslims. As for the people of innovation, their corruption is not apparent to every person.
