Shaykhul-Islām ibn Taymiyyah (may Allāh have mercy upon him) mentioned regarding Ḥizbiyyah:
As for the leader of the Ḥizb, he is the head of the group which has become a Ḥizb. If they are united upon that which Allāh has commanded with, as well as His Messenger without any addition or subtraction, then they are believers. For them is that which is for them and upon them is that which is upon them. And if they have indeed added to that or subtracted (from it) – like having Taʿaṣṣub (fanaticism) for whoever enters into their Ḥizb (group/party) based upon the truth and falsehood and turning away from the one who has not entered into their Ḥizb whether he is upon the truth or falsehood – then this is from the separation (into groups and parties) which Allāh and His Messenger have condemned. Shaykh Haani al-Burayk (may Allah preserve him) stated:
The error (of a person) is to be refuted no matter who he is. The Da’wah is preserved by way of preserving its principles and regulations. It is not preserved by way of preserving individuals/personalities. Individuals come and go. Some are firm and some slip.
How do we deal with a people who boycott others, and spread on them publicly that they are Hizbiyeen without any evidence? What is your advice for these individuals?
Firstly my son, I don’t know of any scholar who is upon the Sunnah who criticizes without evidence. That’s because Jarh wa Ta’deel is a matter of religion that Allaah is worshipped with. The T’adeel is a praise and the Jarh is the opposite of it. The person will be held accountable on the Day of Judgment for the one he has praised, is the person deserving of the praise or not?
