The Leaders of Misguidance

On the authority of ‘Abdullāh Ibn Abbās (may Allāh be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) stated:

The curse of Allāh is upon the one who misleads a blind from the (right) path. (Imām al-Bukhāri’s al-Adab al-Mufrad, #892)

Shaykh ‘Abdur Razzāq ibn ‘Abdil-Muḥsin al-Badr (may Allāh preserve the both of them) stated:

This means Allāh has cursed the one who misleads the blind person from the physical road which takes one to the Masjid or the (person’s) home, etc. If this is the punishment for this particular person, then how much more (severe) is the punishment for the one who misleads the people from the correct path, the path of paradise?! He takes the person from the Sunan (ways of the Prophet) to the matters of religious innovation. He takes the person from the Tawḥīd (Islamic Monotheism) to the Shirk (associating of partners with Allāh in that which is specifically for Allāh). He takes the person from the truth to the misguidance. This is a worse and greater crime. And the refuge is sought with Allāh. This Ḥadīth clarifies the dangers of the callers of misguidance. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) stated:

That which I fear most upon my nation are the leaders who misguide. (As-Silsilah Aṣ-Ṣaḥīḥah)
