The Allaamah Shaykh Rabee’ Ibn Haadi al-Madkhali (may Allah preserve him) stated:

The believer always fears that his state will change. It has been established on the authority of Aa’ishah and ‘Anas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) used to say:

((Oh turner of the hearts, establish my heart upon Your religion.))

I (Anas, may Allah be pleased with him) stated: “Oh Messenger of Allah, we have believed in you and in that which you have come with, so do you fear for us?” The Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

((Yes. Indeed the hearts are between the two fingers of the fingers of Allah (azza wa jall), He turns them however He wills.))

Shaykh Rabee’ went on to say: “By Allah, this is (true) understanding. No person should feel safe regarding himself because the Shaytaan flows through (the body of) the son of Aadam like the flowing of the blood. So be one who guards his heart, intellect and knowledge with a stern guarding. Guarding (these things) more than the person guards his wealth, his honor and whoever’s affair has been placed under his guardianship. It’s obligatory that the person has concern with guarding his heart before everything. Allah stated:

{ربنا لاتزغ قلوبنا بعد إذ هديتنا وهب لنا من لدنك رحمة إنك أنت الوهاب}
“Our Lord do not lead our hearts astray after You have guided us. Bestow upon us from You mercy. Indeed you are the Bestower.” (Soorah Aali ‘Imraan: 8).”

قال الشيخ العلامة ربيع بن هادي المدخلي حفظه الله :

والمؤمن يخشى دائمًا أن تتغير حاله
 فقد ثبت عن عائشة وأنس رضي الله عنهما :
 كان رسول الله صلَّى الله عليه وسلم يكثر أن يقول :
«يا مقلبَ القلوبِ ثبت قلبي على دينك»
 فقلت :
يا رسول الله آمنا بك وبما جئت به فهل تخاف علينا ؟
قال :
«نعم إن القلوبَ بين أُصبُعينِ من أصابعِ الله -عز وجل- يُقلبُها كما يشاء»
 هذا والله هو الفقه :
 ألا يأمن الإنسان على نفسه
 لأن : «الشيطان يجري من ابن آدمَ مجرىٰ الدم»
 فليكن حارسًا لقلبه وعقله وعلمه حراسةً شديدة
 أشد مما يحرس مالَهُ وعِرضَه ومن أُسنِدَ إليه ولايةُ أمره
 يجب أن يهتم بحراسة قلبه قبل كُلِّ شيء :
[ربنا لاتزغ قلوبنا بعد إذ هديتنا وهب لنا من لدنك رحمة إنك أنت الوهاب} –[آل عمران :٨}
