Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy upon him) stated:

As for it being obligatory to follow the one who makes a statement in everything he says without him mentioning the evidence which indicates the soundness of that which he says, this is not correct. Rather this status/level is the status/level of the Messenger which is not befitting to be for anyone except him.
