When Ibrahim Pasha killed Shaykh Sulaymān Ibn ‘Abdillāh Ibn Muḥammad Ibn ‘Abdil-Waḥḥāb (may Allāh have mercy upon them all), he wanted to enrage Shaykh Sulaymān’s father, Shaykh ‘Abdullāh Ibn Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdil-Waḥḥāb (may Allāh have mercy upon them both). Pasha said to the Shaykh, “We killed your son Sulaymān.”

Shaykh ‘Abdullāh responded with complete certainty, sincerity, and faith: “Even if you didn’t kill him, he would have died anyway.” Shaykh Ibn Bassaam (may Allāh have mercy upon him) commented: “This true statement from this brave man has reached that which steel arrows haven’t reached. Ibrahim Pasha kept repeating this statement with his tongue and contemplating it with his intellect.”

Shaykh al-Bassaam went on to say, “I read in some of the Egyptian history (books) that when Ibrahim Pasha returned to Cairo after the war of Ad-Dar’īyyah, the scholars and Shuyūkh of Azhar came greeting him but he didn’t turn towards them nor pay them any mind. When he was asked about that, he said: “The true ‘Ulamā are the ones that are in the desert of an-Najd.” He said this due to what he had seen from their faith, truthfulness, and following the example of the state of the first pious predecessors (of the Muslims).

ذكر أصحاب التأريخ

لما قتل إبراهيم باشا الشيخ سليمان بن عبدالله بن محمد بن عبدالوهاب أراد أن يغيظ أباه الشيخ عبد الله بن محمد بن عبدالوهاب – رحمهما الله -، فقال له

قتلنا ابنك سليمان

فأجابه الشيخ عبدالله بكل يقين ،وإخلاص ،وإيمان

” إن لم تقتله مات “

قال الشيخ ابن بسام – رحمه الله – معلقا

فنالت هذه الكلمة الصادقة من هذا الشجاع
ما لم تنله السهام الحداد
فأخذ إبراهيم باشا يرددها بلسانه ويتأملها بعقله

قال الشيخ البسام : قرأت في بعض التواريخ المصرية
أن إبراهيم باشا لما عاد إلى القاهرة بعد حرب الدرعية ، جاء العلماء وشيوخ الأزهر مهنئين
فلم يلتفت إليهم ولم يهتم بهم

وحين سئل عن ذلك قال
العلماء الحقيقيون هم في صحارى نجد

لما رأى من إيمانهم ،وصدقهم ، وتمثلهم بحال السلف الأوائل
