Question Posed to Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan about Valentine’s Day:
Question:
May Allah do good to you Noble Shaykh. These are a number of question concerning that which has been named the “Holiday of Love” (I.e. Valentine’s Day). They hope from you the clarity concerning the dangers of this celebration and an issued Fatwaa from the Permanent Committee of Scholars regarding this topic?
Answer:
What is the holiday of love? The holiday of the Christians is not permissible for the Muslims to partake in it with them. Nor is it for the Muslims to encourage them upon (celebrating) it. They are not to witness falsehood. These are holidays of the disbelievers, the Muslims are not to encourage them (upon celebrating it). Who is this love for? Love for Iblees? Love for the Messiah (alayhis salaam)? Or love between themselves? There is no (true) love between them. They are disbelievers. Allah says:
You would think they were united, but their hearts are divided. (Al-Hashr: 59)
They say that it’s love with the woman (they’re with)? This is indecency.
